Collagen Induction Therapy (Microneedling)
What is Collagen Induction Therapy?
Collagen Induction therapy is a treatment that utilises very fine needles on the skin to stimulate a wound response in the skin.
How does it work?
As the needles pass over the skin, it stimulates a wound response in the skin. This wound response releases fibroblasts which they in turn signal the skin to heal itself which it does by laying down more collagen and creating more elastin.
As the needles create tiny little micro channels in the skin, highly concentrated serums are infused through these channels to target specific skin conditions like pigmentation, antiaging, sun damage and scarring.
Does it hurt?
I use a topical anaesthetic cream which is applied prior to treatment which makes the procedure very comfortable with minimal if any discomfort.
Is there any downtime?
After your treatment, your skin will be pink and feel hot and tight a little like a sunburn. You may have some small pinpoint bruising. Makeup is not advised for 24 hours so make sure you schedule your appointment to factor this in.
Can I treat my neck or decolletage as well?
Yes, you are able to treat 2 areas if requested in one treatment session. A second area treated is half price ie a full face treatment is $240 and if doing a second area this will be an extra $120, making the total treatment cost $360.
Do I need a consultation prior to booking this treatment?
Yes, a full medical history will need to be taken prior to any treatment to ensure you are suitable for collagen induction therapy. We will also assess your skin concerns to ensure this is the appropriate treatment.
Is there anything I need to do after treatment?
No makeup for 24 hours post. You will need to avoid active products for 1 week following treatment. No swimming, spas or saunas for 48 hours. No vigorous exercise for 24 hours. Sunscreen is a must, and this must be a minimum of SPF30.
How many treatments will I need?
This varies as it will depend on what you are treating. On average 3-4 treatments 4-6 weeks apart are recommended. If you are treating pigmentation or scarring then 4-6 treatments are recommended.
Who can’t have Collagen Induction Therapy?
Pregnancy or breastfeeding is a contraindication for treatment. If you suffer from keloid scarring, have active acne or open wounds on your skin you are unable to have treatment. If you have been on roaccutane in the past 6 months you are unable to have treatment until you have been off this medication for a minimum of 6 months.
How much does it cost?
Full face is $240 per treatment. If you do a second area in the same treatment, the second area is half price ie, full face and decolletage is $360, decolletage and neck is $360, full face and neck is $360.
